BUILDING AND GROUNDS
MINISTRY
Chair: Chandra Marsden
Vestry respresentative: Richard Triplett
Meetings
Our intent is to hold monthly B&G meetings.
Projects include: (Some of these are 3-4 years old,
but are indicative of what the ministry deals with...)
Painting
Our major project was to paint the wall that faces the lower (north)
parking lot. Walt Stark was a big help with this. We also painted the
frames for the stained glass in the Parish Hall entryway and finished
painting the second of two benches that sit out front.
Trees
In April, with a team led by John Taylor, we cut down the dying maple
tree on the east side. During a big wind storm in June, a huge branch
came off the cottonwood on the west side. This tree, which has other
problems, threatens Diamond Drive and needs to come down soon.
Repairs
As the church and its equipment show signs of age and, in addition,
some people treat it a bit roughly, a lot needed fixing in 2004. A list
of repairs and replacements includes: a bent screen in the sacristy,
a fractured window pane in the library, a blown-out pew in the sanctuary,
a malfunctioning fan in the rest room, a water leak in the heating system,
a few frozen lawn-sprinkler valves, collapsing shelves in the library,
a small broken table, a zapped telephone (not to mention a busted door)
in the Parish Hall, loose floor tiles downstairs, gaps in the carpet
edging upstairs, and a tractor with a height-adjustment problem.
Other projects
Thanks to Mark the Electrician, there is now a dimmer switch on the
lights in the chapel. With Norm Hunter's help, a diffuser was installed
in the skylight over the altar. New light fixtures were installed in
the associate's office, a row of coat hooks was put up in the relocated
nursery, and shelves were added in the Sexton's closet and the Sunday
School wing.
Plumbing
During the past two winters, a rite of passage for a new Junior Warden
has been a sewer backup into the upstairs rest rooms at exactly the
wrong time. This year we took pity and had a preventative cleanout done
in December. It's a good thing we did too; four potential obstructions
were eliminated.
Regular yearly activities include:
Spring Work Day - Early May
Fall Work Day - Mid October
