Organ and Pianos

Though it is concealed by a mesh screen, ToTH contains the largest pipe organ in Los Alamos (and possibly the largest in Northern NM outside Santa Fe). It started life in a chamber off the original sanctuary (now the Columbarium of the Chapel) as Opus 525 of the Hall Organ Company, West Haven, Connecticut; moved into the present Sanctuary in the early 1960s, it was rebuilt and enlarged in 1992 by W.E. Wilson and Associates of Colorado Springs. We arrange regular maintenance to ensure that this instrument remains in good condition. The organ contains the following stops (spellings as on the console- superscripts show members of an extended rank):

Great: Gedeckt Bassa 16’, Principal 8’, Hohlflöte 8’, Gemshorn 8’, Octaveb 4’, Rohrflötec 4’, Super Octaveb 2’, Rohrflötec 2’, Mixture III-IV.

Swell: Gedeckta 8’, Salicional 8’, Vox Celeste 8’, Spitz Principald 4’, Flutea 4’, Nazate 2⅔, Spitz Octaved 2’, PIccoloa 2’, Terz 1⅗’, Quinte 1⅓, Contra Trompettef 16’, Trompettef 8’, Oboe 8’, Clarionf 4’, Tremolo.

Pedal: Untersatza 32’, Subbass 16’, Lieblich Gedeckta 16’, Principalg 8’, Gedackta 8’, Choral Bassg 4’, Super Octaveg 2’, Contra Trompettef 16’, Trompettef 8’, Claironf 4’.

Contact our organist, Valerie Fassbender, via the office if you would like to use the organ for practice or for a recital.

We have worked with ToTH members and donors to ensure that pianos are available throughout the church to accompany services, concerts and rehearsals. There are two fine overstrung upright pianos in the Sanctuary, a modern Yamaha and a recently restored Becker that is about 100 years old. They are kept in tune with each other so that works for two pianos are feasible. The Chapel contains a smaller Hamilton upright that is about 10 years old. We have an excellent Sohmer parlor grand piano in Kelly Hall, permitting senior recitals and concerts by chamber choirs. There is a “school room” Baldwin piano in the Choir Room. Please contact the office if you would like to use the pianos for personal practice or recitals.

We also possess a drum kit, amplifiers, a portable harmonium, two electronic keyboards and three herald trumpets, the latter for use at Easter.
